Just when you think things could not get any worse for Auburn football, the NCAA is knocking at their door. The governing body is investigating the school for possible recruiting violations that involve recruits, their families, boosters, and the coaching staff. Not a real good look.
This is not the first time that this has happened during the soon to be over Gene Chizik era. Remember that awesome national title that they brought home, thanks to Cam Newton? That was also the center of a giant investigation regarding his recruitment. This is something that the school probably does not want to deal with twice in under three years.
On the bright side, this latest mess is supposedly Newton-free. That has to be a good thing, right? Auburn may be screwed but at least their national title will remain untainted for now. That could change down the road but they have bigger issues on their plate right now.
This has pretty much been the season from hell for this team. They have looked downright awful almost every week and it has pretty much signaled the end of Chizik. He did win them a title but once Newton left, things went awry in a hurry. They should be able to get a decent coach to replace him but it is probably going to cost a decent chunk of change.
We will keep you updated with this situation as more information leaks out. For now, it does not look good for the program.
