Woody's Log Week 13 - BCS On the Line in ACC vs SEC Showdown

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

It’s finally here!!!

That’s right ladies and gentlemen…

It’s time for the post-turkey day rivalry death matches…

And the sad thing for ACC Football fans is that it really could mean the demise of the conference it loves if a few teams do not give it one heck of an effort this weekend.

OK, so maybe that is exaggerated a bit…

But it is a serious situation as the nation has zero faith in the ACC and is ready to completely write it off one and for all even if it is the last year of the righteous BCS Rankings.

Even the Top-Ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish are watching with critical eyes to how its new ally will respond this Saturday to the powerhouse that is the SEC.

Folks, there is absolutely, positively zero room for error…

And, unfortunately everyone knows how the ACC has responded to pressure filled games against “superior” opponents over the past decade…

So in a week that the Maryland Terrapins sells its soul to the Big 10, the Miami Hurricanes are preparing to get destroyed by the NCAA including the potential departure of Al Golden and the rumors rampant of the demise of the ACC, this conference needs something good to happen.

Not that a winless mark against the SEC spells the end…

But, it sure as heck will not help the matters any!

So with the fate of the ACC just hours away, it’s time for Woody’s Log to work his magic.

So far the overall records Against the Spread is 47-31-1 after a 4-2 mark last week.

Not too shabby, but that has been against in conference and random competition…

This is the ACC vs. SEC now…

And, to be honest, it’s a little intimidating…

(takes a deep breath, pounds chest)

But with no fear, here it goes with Woody’s Log for Week 13!

(kind of funny it’s Week 13 isn’t it…)

XM 200 or 204 – SIRIUS 92 or 135

So the first game of the day in what will unfold in the fate of ACC Football versus the SEC pits the hated rivals of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets against the 3rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

This is not a good set up for the ACC at all here…

Now the Yellow Jackets seemed to have figured out some things on both offense and defense over the past month.

Thankfully for the ACC as Tech is set to represent the conference as the default Coastal Division Champs in the ACC Title Game.

But, unfortunately for the Jackets, Georgia may have more to prove to the nation as it prepares for its appearance in the SEC Championship Game.

Plus, the Bulldogs have had a warm-up live test against a spread option team last week in the Georgia Southern Eagles

Tech will make the ACC proud early, but Georgia will win big and cover late, 48-24.

There is only one thing that you need to know about the Virginia Cavaliers taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies must have this game to become bowl eligible…

Sorry Virginia fans, but this is one you need to lay down on for good of what is ACC Football.

Virginia Tech will win and win big, 40-17…

A huge win for the conference having arguably its most consistent team Bowl Eligible.

Miami Hurricanes @ Duke Blue Devils (+6.5)

Miami Hurricanes @ Duke Blue Devils (+6.5)

ACC Network – 12:30 p.m.

XM 203 – SIRIUS 136

This game was supposed to be for the right to go to the ACC Championship

But thanks to the ongoing Shapiro Scandal, the Miami Hurricanes folded its winning hand this week for and self-imposed a Post-Season and Bowl Ban for the second-straight season.

A move that Hurricane Head Coach Al Golden wasn’t too happy with as rumors are rampant he is wanting out of Miami.

On the flip side, the Duke Blue Devils are so tickled pink they signed Head Coach David Cuttcliffe to an extension through the 2019 season this week.

With all that in place, the karma in Durham, North Carolina is better than what Miami has…

Duke wins, 48-44.

Boston College Eagles @ North Carolina State Wolfpack (-14)

Boston College Eagles @ North Carolina State Wolfpack (-14)

ESPN3 – 3 p.m.

XM 193 – SIRIUS 149

Let’s just say for the greater good of ACC Football, the North Carolina State Wolfpack has to dismantle the Boston College Eagles.

The Eagles are going nowhere and State can improve on its power ranking and the entire conference’s power ranking with a big win.

But, the Wolfpack seem to always come up short when it isn’t suppose too..

The trend changes, though, and State rolls, 52-27.

What a week and a season it has been for the Maryland Terrapins

Thankfully, it all comes to an end against a fellow founding member of the ACC

This is the North Carolina Tar HeelsBowl Game

And there is no doubt the Heels want to make a statement against the Terps…

North Carolina puts an end to a great first season for Fedora Ball with a big 38-6 victory.

No. 4 Florida Gators @ No. 10 Florida State Seminoles (-8)

ABC – 3:30 p.m.

XM 91 or 85 – SIRIUS 91 or 85

And the second game in the ACC Football versus SEC showdown…

It simply doesn’t get any bigger or more important than this game…

The 4th-ranked Florida Gators need to win so they can slide into the BCS Title Game

The 10th-ranked Florida State Seminoles are furious no one in the world believes in them and their conference…

This should be one of those games for the ages.

SHOULD being the key word…

But there is something special about this Seminoles team.

FSU is in the top 10 in the nation in points scored and points allowed…

They are simply balanced on both sides of the ball…

Fact is the Gators are not.

And, FSU and the ACC both need a huge statement game…

The ‘Noles make a statement in a big way at home and silence the critics with a huge 42-13 victory over Florida.

ACC – 1…

SEC – 1…

Vanderbilt Commodores @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+11)

ESPNU – 3:30 p.m.

XM 197 – SIRIUS 112

And the throw in game to the battle between the ACC Football and the SEC

There is no doubt the Vanderbilt Commodores is the better team in its game with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Wake is a very young team that has had a very disappointing effort..

But the great news for the ACC is that the Demon Deacons have faced at least 4 teams more powerful and elite than the Commodores…

And the game is in Winston Salem, North Carolina

Wake pulls the upset here ladies and gentlemen, 31-30…

ACC – 2…

SEC – 1…

Joshua S. Kelly-US PRESSWIRE

No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks @ No. 11 Clemson Tigers (-4)

ESPN – 7 p.m.

XM 85 or 197 – SIRIUS 85 or 112

So it all comes down to what has turned out to be the most bitter rival game of the entire day…

For ACC Football to complete its resurrection against the SEC it will take one final victory for the Battle of the Palmetto State

The 12th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks have had one crazy season of extremely high highs and incredibly low lows.

The 11th-ranked Clemson Tigers have only about five minutes of poor football against the 10th-ranked Florida State Seminoles that has kept them from a perfect season, an Atlantic Division Title, a trip to the ACC Championship and possibly the BCS Title.

This is simply the most important game in the history of this rivalry maybe ever for the Tigers…

The Gamecocks will pull out all the stops, but they simply will not have the weapons to counter act the incredible talent Clemson has on offense.

This will be one fun game to watch with the Tigers pulling away at the end saving their season and the ACC with a 48-37 victory.

ACC – 3…

SEC – 1…

Put that in your pipe and smoke it BCS…
