Week 13 Big Game Predictions In College Football

By Mike Atkinson

As the end of the college football season approaches, every game takes on an added significance.

For top 25 teams, it is crucial to win every remaining game on the schedule, as BCS rankings are in full effect, and conference championships are yet to be decided.

Now we are only a few hours away from the first batch of week 13 kickoffs, anxious to get the games underway, but first, here are my week 13 predictions for the biggest games of the weekend.

The No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-0) at the USC Trojans (7-4, 5-4 Pac 12)

Notre Dame finally has the number one spot in the country after years of complaints with the BCS. They have already shown that they are worthy of their high rank this year, as they have beat a number of other high ranked teams. The team has looked good for the most part, and now is simply one win away from heading to the national championship game the school has coveted for so long.

USC is a team capable of playing spoiler to the Irish. It makes it even better that they’re rivals. There is nothing more satisfying to a football team that’s out of the BCS hunt than ruining a rival’s dream season.

Look for USC to put up one heck of a fight, but still lose. I think Notre Dame gets it done 28-21.

The No. 4 Florida Gators (10-1, 7-1 SEC) at the No. 10 Florida State Seminoles (10-1, 7-1 ACC)

The Gators are still in the hunt for the national championship if one of the top three teams loses. They are riding a three game win streak after beating the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

I think the Seminoles have looked like the much stronger team against much stronger opponents than the Gators have. I think Florida State plays spoiler to its rival in this one. Florida State wins a close one 23-21.

The No. 5 Oregon Ducks (10-1, 7-1 Pac 12) at the No. 15 Oregon State Beavers (8-2, 6-2 Pac 12)

Oregon, previously number two in the country, and what most would consider an automatic bid for the national championship game, has one of the most explosive offenses in the game. They are coming off of a close loss against the No. 13 Stanford Cardinal in overtime. I think Oregon is too strong for the Beavers to handle.

The Beavers on the other hand, are a team that has not received a lot of attention this season. They have slowly climbed all the way to number 15 in the country, and now have the chance to add insult to injury to a wounded Oregon team.

I think the Oregon offense will run rampant against OSU, looking to take out any frustrations from last week on the OSU secondary. Oregon wins big 42-21.

The No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks (9-2, 6-2 SEC) at the No. 11 Clemson Tigers (10-1, 7-1 ACC)

This is a game that already has a huge buildup of trash talk and hype. The Gamecocks looked like an outside favorite for the championship a few weeks ago. Then, running back Marcus Lattimore injured his knee and missed the remainder of the season. Now the Gamecocks have a chance to win another big game late in the season.

The Tigers look to climb into the top 10 before the end of the season with a big win over the Gamecocks. I think Clemson will win this game. South Carolina hasn’t played a top 25 team without Lattimore, and struggled to beat a weak Arkansas Razorbacks team, and the FCS Wofford Terriers.

Clemson wins 28-14.
