Purdue Fires Danny Hope

Danny Hope preached that this Purdue team was his most talented one yet. The team was predicted to be a sleeper in the Leaders Division but none of that came to fruition. After a disappointing 6-6 season, the school has fired its head football coach.

Judging by the reaction of some of the players on Twitter, they are not happy about this decision.  I can understand because Hope is apparently a really great guy.  I’ve never met him but most stories have him being an extremely nice guy and it shows in his recruiting prowess.

However, you have to be able to coach.  Hope’s downfall was his instance to start Caleb Terbush at quarterback this year.  Anyone with half a brain saw that Robert Marve was the guy to lead the team.  Marve did start the final four games of the season and Purdue won three of those.  If he would have started all season, maybe Purdue picks up another win or two.

As for the next head coach, expect Purdue to look very hard at Dave Doeren.  He is an upcoming coach and fits the Purdue type of coach.  He probably will not be extremely expensive, which means he is probably the guy.

However, I leave you with one surprising name that just will not go away.  That name is Jim Tressel.  There have been whispers of him interviewing with the school and lots of sightings of him on campus.  It sounds like a bad rumor but it simply will not go away.  Keep an eye on this in the future.
