Bobby Petrino should be the next head coach at Auburn University.
The former University of Arkansas and University of Louisville coach is the most proven winner on the market right now and would bring an offensive presence to a team that desperately needs an offensive punch.
Petrino left Arkansas is disgrace following his extra-marital affair with a staffer on the Arkansas athletic department, but you cannot deny his ability to recruit, coach and win at the collegiate level.
On the other hand, his transgressions off the field will draw the ire of many boosters who would want nothing to do with Petrino and would rather hire someone without a checkered past.
It figures to be a hot debate within Auburn circles, but I think winning will win out in the end, as it usually does in collegiate and professional sports.
Having a familiarity with the SEC West, after spending four years in Fayetteville winning 34 of 51 games, Petrino would be able to step right in and at least double the win total of Gene Chizik’s last year from three to six in his first year.
Petrino is desperate to get back into coaching and Auburn is desperate to get a proven winner.
The two are a perfect match for each other, but that doesn’t mean that is it anything close to a sure thing. I think Petrino heading to Auburn to coach should happen, and I honestly think it eventually will.
