Big 12 Football Weekend Preview: Week 14

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The final week in the 2012 college football regular season is here. It’s hard to believe an entire season has come and gone once again.

Now comes the most exciting time of a college football season. Every game has implications and every team has something to play for.

We’re just one day away from the final round of games this season, so here is my final Big 12 weekend preview.

Week 14 features the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road against the Baylor Bears, the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners vs the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, the Kansas Jayhawks against the West Virginia Mountaineers and most importantly a game between the No. 18 Texas Longhorns and the No. 6 Kansas State Wildcats which will have major bowl implications.

My predictions:

OSU (7-4, 5-3 Big XII) at Baylor (6-5, 3-5 Big XII)

Baylor is hot right now. After upsetting the number one team, it followed that performance with a win over another top 25 team. Heading into the game with only six wins, I think Baylor has a lot to play for in order to get into the bowl they want.

Oklahoma State is coming off of a loss to the Sooners, but has only lost to the number 13 and number two team during the season.

Look for this game to be fairly close. I have Baylor winning 28-21.

OU (9-2, 7-1 Big XII) at TCU (7-4, 4-4 Big XII)

TCU is coming off of an upset against the No. 16 Longhorns, so look for them to ride that momentum. However they are still only 4-4 in the conference and are facing a tough OU team this week.

OU is on a roll. It has won its last four games, and has only lost to the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No. 15 KSU. This is a very tough team that knows how to win.

OU wins 42-21.

KU (1-10, 0-8 Big XII) at WVU (6-5, 3-5 Big XII)

For anyone interested, I wrote an in-depth preview of this game here.

KU has not yet won a conference game, but has been close a number of times. If a team sleeps on them, the Jayhawks can pull an upset.

WVU finally got another conference win last week, snapping a five game losing streak. Loaded with too many offensive weapons for Kansas to handle, I think WVU takes this one.

WVU wins 45-28.

Texas (8-3, 5-3 Big XII) at Kansas St (10-1, 7-1 Big XII)

Kansas State lost its first game the last time it played. Now, the fallen warriors will roll over for the Longhorns right? The Wildcats are going to be one angry football team coming into this game. Their loss against Baylor was a fluke, and they are still the very powerful team people were projecting to win the national championship a few weeks ago. Coming off of a bye week with extra time to let that loss soak in, I think the Wildcats will be very hard to stop tomorrow.

Texas is coming off of a loss to unranked TCU. It has had a number of close calls throughout the season, narrowly escaping Kansas, the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Baylor. I think Texas has had some trouble this season and that raises some red flags for me.

I think KSU wins a big one tomorrow 56-42.
