Not to be outdone by the Texas A&M Aggies who released a cleverly crafted Johnny Manziel Heisman video last week which featured Johnny Football as a sped-up Tecmo Bowl-style character, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have released their own Heisman hype video for Manti Te’o with a little different, but no less clever theme.
Set to the music of Harry Belafonte’s “The Banana Boat Song”, the Pat McKillen’s “Te’o” video sings the praises of the Hawaiian star.
Here it is:
The Irish are riding high after an undefeated regular season and await this afternoon’s winner of the SEC Championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs to determine whom they’ll face in the National Championship Game on January 7, 2013 in Miami.
Manti Te’o is undoubtedly the spiritual leader of the Irish in more ways than one, and a Heisman trophy win for him next Saturday at the Downtown Athletic Club’s presentation in New York City would be the crowning personal achievement of one of the best individual defensive seasons in some time.
Can Manti Te’o be the first defensive player to win the Heisman trophy since Charles Woodson? There are plenty of people who think so, several of our Rant Sports writers included.
I’m all for it.
Guys like Te’o are increasingly rare in college football anymore. Manti certainly is one of a kind.
Come mister quarterback, throw me interception.
