Missouri Offensive Coordinator David Yost Resigns

The Missouri Tigers‘ offensive coordinator David Yost has stepped down, via a release from the school according to Gabe DeArmond of PowerMizzou.com.

Yost has been apart of Gary Pinkel‘s coaching staff for 17 seasons. He joined Pinkel as an assistant for the Toledo Rockets in 1996. He apparently cited personal reasons for wanting to step down.

Pinkel said of Yost’s decision, “It is very difficult to imagine not having David as part of our staff… I asked him to reconsider.” Chad Moller, director of Media Relations said, “A great man, sad to see him go.”

Missouri senior wide receiver T.J. Moe said of Yost,”Great football mind–had a hand in some of the best offenses in the country over the last six years.”

Yost had been under a lot of pressure this season after a stagnant Missouri offense struggled to put up points against the Central Florida Knights, and falling at home to both the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Syracuse Orange.

Another factor to consider is the last two big recruits that Yost has pulled in, Dorial Green-Beckham and Maty Mauk, have both exhibited character issues that have affected the program. This move may not be as much about results on the field as it is about the people coming in off of it.

Many reports insist that Yost wasn’t forced out, but I’d like to see the dust settle before I make a prediction on that. If he wasn’t forced out, he was at least creating the pressure for himself. Missouri will begin the search for a new offensive coordinator immediately.
