Notre Dame's DC Bob Diaco Will Have Head Coaching Options at Boston College, Wisconsin

Having great coaches underneath your head coach is a double-edged sword of sorts. On one hand, you have some one of the best coordinators in the country, which Notre Dame defensive coordinator, Bob Diaco, is, seeing as he won the Broyles award for the best defensive coordinator in the country. On the other side of the coin, however, it’s hard to lock up those coordinators in the college football world considering there are so many head coaching vacancies  Notre Dame is finding that out first hand with the interest Boston College has in Diaco, making him one of their three finalists. Also, with the departure of Bret Bielema from Wisconsin, that pipeline will open up as well.

As I said, it has been reported that BC made Diaco a finalist for their head coaching job, so I won’t spend much time on that connection. It obviously makes sense for BC to be interested in one of the better coordinators in the country as is, but since he is from Notre Dame, that makes it even more worthwhile.

In regards to Wisconsin, however, there is a pipeline worth noting. Wisconsin’s athletic director, Barry Alvarez, likes his coaches from Iowa, seeing as Bielema is a former Iowa grad. Well, Diaco is also an Iowa graduate as well, which has some Hawkeye fans on edge that another former player will join forces with Bucky.

The connection is there for Diaco. Sadly, for ND fans, Diaco is probably on his way out to one of the schools, making that double-edge sword bury a little too deep.

UPDATE: So much for Boston College, as they agreed to terms with Steve Addazio from Temple.
