Alabama Crimson Tide Projected No. 1 For 2013

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

According to NationalChampions.net, a website that has done an early poll for the last 12 years, the Alabama Crimson Tide will once again sit at No. 1 in the polls at the beginning of 2013. It definitely helps that quarterback A.J. McCarron has announced that he will be returning for 2013, but the Tide does have several other key players that will be back for more.

With Alabama sitting atop the polls again, (remember these are just mock polls, nothing official) it looks like the SEC will remain king going in. Here is a look at what their projected Top 25 looks like:

1. Alabama
2. Stanford
3. Louisiana State
4. Notre Dame
5. Oregon
6. Georgia
7. Florida
8. Texas A&M
9. Ohio State
10. South Carolina
11. Louisville
12. Oregon State
13. Clemson
14. Oklahoma
15. Florida State
16. Texas
17. UCLA
18. Wisconsin
19. Southern California
20. Nebraska
21. Boise State
22. Michigan State
23. TCU
24. Fresno State
25. Ole Miss

Six SEC teams are sitting in the Top 10, so when they start out ranked that high, some deservedly, some not, it’s hard for other teams and conferences to pass them. Of course, until someone knocks them off their National Championship throne, this isn’t going to change. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have their shot to do so on January 7th. Until something gives, we have to accept that for now, they are the conference to beat. Like it or not.

The website uses the same formula that the actual polls use, and they claim to be very accurate and have been for the last 12 years they have been doing what they call the “Early Bird Preview” but there are a couple teams in there that shouldn’t be. But I’m all for everyone being entitled to their own opinion.

I think one thing we all can agree on after looking at a 2013 projected poll is that next season can’t get here fast enough.
