Russell Athletic Bowl Is Rutgers Scarlet Knights To Lose
There are always going to be college football bowl games that feature .500 teams and the Russell Athletic Bowl is a great example as the 6-6 Virginia Tech Hokies face the 9-3 Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time December 28 in Orlando. While the Hokies are just .500, they are a dangerous team that will give Rutgers some trouble.
For Virginia Tech to win this game, the Hokies have to play a great a defensive game just as they have in their six wins. In the victories, they have allowed just 13 points a game, but in their six losses they have allowed 34 points a game. It will be imperative for the Hokies to keep this game low-scoring for just that very reason if they want to finish the season with a winning record. Rutgers needs to take advantage of a Virginia Tech defense that has been bad against the pass to end the regular season while not turning the ball over as they have done in their three losses this year.
I’ve never been a fan of .500 teams in a bowl game but this could be one of the few teams that could win their bowl game. However, Rutgers should be able to pass the ball at will and that will be the demise of the Hokies. If the Scarlet Knights can score over 21 points, the game is theirs. I’ll take Rutgers 27-17 to win this game. Virginia Tech is good but Rutgers will have too many weapons on offense to be slowed down. It looks like a Scarlet Knights kind of night in Florida.
