Cincinnati Bearcats Dump the Duke Blue Devils in the Belk Bowl, Now waits for an ACC Bid

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

So the question of the night is a simple one after one heck of a Belk Bowl

How cool are those Ivy Crew fleece pullovers…

(smiles)

Just kidding…

But you have to admit that was one heck of a game that had everyone in ACC Football land glued to ESPN.

You name it, this game between the Duke Blue Devils and the Cincinnati Bearcats had it…

Kind of like your local Belk

And the crazies ending to any Bowl Game since the Gildan New Mexico Bowl to kick off the season.

But despite all the great plays, almost 1200 yards of total offense and the blown coverages, there was a clinic for aspiring football coaches…

One.. if you are out of time outs and want to ice the opposing kicker just run out 12 guys on the field and get a penalty. Simply genius by Interim Bearcat Head Coach Steve Springer and a key turning point in the game.

Two… It’s not about how you start a game, but its how you finish it. Duke jumped out 16-0 only to be outscored 21-10 when it counted including 14-0 run by Cincy in the final minute. Just another bad performance in a key moment for an ACC Team.

Three… the Blue Devils could not end the misery of the ACC, while Cincinnati made one heck of a case in it’s courting of getting a rose from the conference.

And that is the real story of the game…

Duke was four-yards away from winning its first Bowl Game since 1961 and putting the Atlantic Coast Conference out in front with its first bowl win of 2012.

A fumble later followed by a huge run for a touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown, the Blue Devils are the goats in the 48-34 crushing defeat to the soon to be dead Big East.

So where will the ACC go from here…

Where will Duke go from here…

And most importantly, where will Tommy Tubberville and the victorious Bearcats end up from here…

Bets are playing the Blue Devils a lot more often…
