As college football bowl games roll towards the big games on New Year’s Day and beyond, fans get an appetizer with the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on December 29 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time between the 7-5 Arizona State Sun Devils and the 8-4 Navy Midshipmen in San Francisco. Arizona State had a very average season but facing a Navy team that can run the ball with anyone, it will be up to the Sun Devils to come up with a great game plan. This game has blowout written on it but I don’t see it that way.
Navy runs a triple-option offense that can take loads of time off the clock as they move down the field. It is very one-dimensional if you think it is just a running game but is so deceptive that you never know who has the ball. If Navy can control the time of possession with over 40 minutes of offense on the field, they could easily win this game. Arizona State can’t turn the ball over and must slow down the Navy offense while getting just enough offense when they have the football to offset the time of possession.
If Arizona State stops the Navy rush attack, this game will be over very quickly and will be a blowout but I feel Navy will be able to stay on the field long enough. I’ll take Arizona State to win 27-14 but that could be a late touchdown to make the score look deceiving. That will be a game to watch just to see what Arizona State does to stop Navy.
