Missouri Tigers’ New Football Star: Chase Abbington
Missouri Tigers‘ fans, get ready to forget all about the anguish that was this past football season and look to the future with a smile. A big one in this case.
Say hello to the newest unofficial star for Mizzou, Chase Abbington. The 6’4″ sensation out of the St. Louis area is tops so far in the Tigers’ recruiting class. While Abbington was mostly a running back in high school, his size will enable him to be a wide receiver for the Tigers.
And that’s not all. Mizzou may begin to become known as “Kick-Return U” after Abbington has a chance to run some back. In the video shown below, you can see that his speed and explosive play-making ability makes him perfect for Mizzou.
So how does he compare with some of the great Tiger receivers and return men of the past? His only knock is that on paper he’s not quite as fast as Danario Alexander and Jeremy Maclin with a 4.4 40-time. But as you can see, he is clearly capable of making electrifying plays.
Recruiting-wise, his name is huge for Missouri right now. It’s sending a message to the players in-state that Missouri is still a hot destination, as well as sending a message to other schools who are dipping in to St. Louis that it is still a Mizzou town.
Abbington will be in action for team USA for the International Bowl on Feb. 5 in Austin, Tex. The game features an American team and a team made of international players who are all under 19. Each team fields 45 players. The game is the day before National Signing Day.
