BCS National Championship Game Drives Explosive Ticket Market

Steve Mitchell – USA TODAY SPORTS

As expected, the ticket market for the BCS National Championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been explosive since the day the game was announced, with some even more interesting trends picking up in recent weeks as we’ve inched that much closer to kickoff.

Via information from our friends at Vivid Seats, a few surprising stats really jumped out at us:

  • More tickets were sold by Vivid Seats to customers in Florida (18%) than in either Illinois/Indiana (14%) or Alabama (13%) (What, do we have a bunch of closeted Fighting Irish and Tide fans stuck in Gator Country? This one’s really surprising.)
  • Of the tickets sold prior to today, 25% more were sold on the side of the stadium delegated to the Notre Dame faithful. (Maybe a little bit of complacency has finally set in Tuscaloosa, while the Irish faithful see this as more of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that so often drives a  purchase you wouldn’t otherwise make.)
  • As soon as the Fighting Irish were shoed-in as a participant, ticket prices skyrocketed on secondary markets and as face value, by as much as 60%! (Now that’s name value, ladies and gentlemen.)
  • As expected, sales for the game have jumped by a 55% tick since last week as last-second demand for the folks at Vivid Seats has gone through the roof.

Here’s even more info on this crazy BCS Title Game market:

All of these stats, and what we’ve seen also during the course of the day that this event is the most lucrative in StubHub history, certainly suggest fans are seeing the match-up between Alabama and Notre Dame as an event of a lifetime.

There’s still time to grab your seats from Vivid Seats and be one of those fans who gets to see things up close and in person? After all, when will you have a chance to see two of the game’s legendary programs face off in a game of this magnitude again anytime soon?

Give Vivid Seats a chance to make your dreams come true and be one of the fans that watches history unfold tonight in Miami!
