Notre Dame Fighting Irish Actually Score in Discover BCS National Title Game

Well…

This is not how everyone thought things would turn out…

No where close…

But at least the Notre Dame Fighting Irish did score.

And that is all you can say about the Alabama Crimson Tide‘s dominate performance in a 42-14 win in the Discover BCS National Championship Game.

(sigh)

The 2012 College Football season was tremendous from start til finish…

Right up until the last game…

Because this game was awful…

It was the worst officiated game in the history of the BCS, it was the worst effort by the No. 1 team in the country and it was the worst ending to a college football season ever.

Unless of course you are a fan of Roll Tide…

The highlight of the game by far was the awkward moment Brent Musburger and the ESPN camera man had over A.J. McCarron‘s girlfriend and Auburn Tiger Katherine Webb.

And that should never be the highlight of any football game…

(and for the record this sports writer did follow her on Twitter)

It was also pretty epic when McCarron and Barrett Jones got into the shoving match late in the fourth quarter on a delay of game call. Even Nick Saban was going nuts. You would have thought it was 14-14 instead of 42-14.

But that is what makes Bama and the SEC the beast that they are…

So with all of that being said, what did the nation learn from tonight’s game…

  • One… McCarron is a player (evidently on and off the field).
  • Two… The SEC is physically and mentally stronger than any other conference or team in the country.
  • Three… Never, ever bet against Vegas.
  • Four… Saban is the best college football coach of this generation.
  • Five… Notre Dame youth was too much to overcome.
  • Six… The Fighting Irish are ready for prime-time ACC Football action with this effort.

And that’s just the short list…

It is amazing McCarron is the first QB in the BCS Era to win back to back titles and it’s even more amazing the SEC has won seven-straight.

And you want to know why…

“I’m very satisfied with this team,” Saban said on the field as the clock hit zero. “I’m very proud of this team and for what they accomplished, but two days from now we have to get started for next year.”

And that is why the Crimson Tide are back to back champs and the SEC can never be touched.

Congrats once again to Bama and the best conference in the land.

Can’t wait to see the Tide, Texas A&M Aggies, Georgia Bulldogs or three other SEC teams play for the title next season…
