People Say Ronaiah Tuiasosopo Duped Manti Te’o Without His Knowledge

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Manti Te’o saga has taken a new turn on Friday morning. There has been a lot of speculation about the situation, but it now appears that Ronaiah Tuiasosopo may simply be a sociopath. Two people told ESPN’s Shelley Smith that this hoax had been pulled on their family members, just like it was on Te’o.

So this may end up changing everything.  Notre Dame was right when they said that Te’o was the innocent victim of hoax, which defies all logic.  However, it is still the most plausible theory.  Then again, this is something that corroborated with either of the two principle people involved.  There is a lot of grey area in this situation and until we hear Te’o or Tuiasosopo speak, it all remains speculation.

If this was a hoax and Te’o was duped, there are still questions that he must answer.  For instance, when he realized that he was a victim of a hoax, why did he continue to talk about his girlfriend?  That is one of the red flags that has a lot of people confused.   Initially, I thought that meant he was a part of the hoax.  Then again, the poor kid could have been trying to save himself the embarrassment of admitting he had been duped by someone.

Until Te’o talks, this will still be speculated on.  However, we may finally be moving toward a conclusion.
