Rutgers Scarlet Knights Must Not Carry Awful Finish Into 2013
There is not a team in CFB that would want the two months that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights had between November and now. The program lost three straight games to end the 2012 season including a heartbreaking loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Now, the team steam-rolled the Big East early on with a dazzling 5-0 conference record heading into November–the team would hit a wall and end with a 5-2 record in the Big East. The Scarlet Knights have plenty to improve upon in 2013 but, it wouldn’t hurt anyone if the team fell on some dumb luck too. I have no doubt this team that was ranked #22 in the country at one point can return to grace again this fall.
The defense was a large reason why the Knights got to that rank as they were fourth in all of the land in 2012 allowing just 14.2 points per contest. In order to avoid three game losing streaks moving forward they will need to rely heavily on a defense that will be better than ever in 2013.
Losing to the Hokies in overtime was the cherry on top to an awful spell that the Scarlet Knights endured in the latter months of 2012. Often times teams have a difficult time getting the bad taste of three losses in a row out of their mouth–even if the losses are a season apart. If the Knights are unable to hit the ground running in 2013 it may be a long season for anyone who still believes in Rutgers.
