Tajh Boyd Will Make Clemson Tigers Deadly in 2013

Paul Abell-USA TODAY Sports

The Clemson Tigers finished the 2012 season off with an exciting 25-24 victory over 12th ranked LSU in the Chick-Fil-A bowl. Tajh Boyd showed all season why he was the real deal for the Tigers but, he sent the season off in style with a three touchdown performance.

As a junior Boyd was eligible to enter the NFL draft this spring however, he decided he would stay at the CFB level for one more season. This decision alone will make the Tigers an ACC powerhouse and may make them favorites to play in the BCS title game in 2013. Boyd turned in a historic campaign in 2012 and if he continues on this record pace of 46 Touchdowns to just 13 Interceptions the Tigers may have a championship waiting in the wings.

Boyd is equally effective on the ground and in the air as he threw for 3,896 yards and 36 passing touchdowns to go with 514 rushing yards and 10 rush touchdowns in 2012. Minus a loss to South Carolina and the Tigers may have been playing in January this year as they were deadly with Boyd at the helm.

The ACC isn’t exactly a college football powerhouse conference however, Florida State is a team that has been a thorn in the Tigers side as they captured another ACC title in 2012. In my mind, Clemson may be able to overrun the Seminoles in 2013 with a veteran Boyd in the leadership role underneath center.

Now, this decision may come back to bite Boyd as he could’ve easily been playing on Sundays this coming fall–hopefully the rest of the Tigers team makes his decision to stay worthwhile.
