The Wake Forest football team was really bad in 2012 and no one will argue that. The Demon Deacons suffered some bad bad breaks, especially on offense, which made things worse than they really were, but they were still just pretty bad. On the bright side, Wake Forest fans can look forward to a 2013 season that will hopefully hold better fortune as far as injuries and uncontrollable things like that are concerned.

Wake Forest’s defense was bad all the way around, ranking in the bottom fifth of all FBS teams in all three major defensive categories. Of course, the Demon Deacons’ defense suffered injuries as well, including Merrill Noel and Nikita Whitlock. In addition, it was clear Wake Forest missed the all-around play of Kyle Wilber, who now plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

On offense, things weren’t any better for Wake Forest as the school ranked near the bottom of the barrel in scoring offense, especially compared to the Demon Deacons’ numbers in 2011, which weren’t “good” by any stretch of the imagination. Of course, the poor offensive production was due in large part to a slew of injuries on the offensive line and Wake Forest fans are quick to point that out.

Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe had a rough season due to a lot of things he couldn’t control, but the truckload of player suspensions definitely didn’t help, either. In short, Wake Forest can’t be much worse in 2013, so Demon Deacon fans should be cautiously excited about the upcoming season.
