Expectations were high for the Arkansas Razorbacks heading into the 2012 season as they started off the year ranked No. 10, but their National Championship hopes quickly disappeared before eventually finishing the year with a 4-8 overall record (2-6 SEC). Luckily, they managed to stag one of the top recruits out of Florida in Alex Collins heading into the 2013 season.
At first, all signs pointed to Collins staying in state and joining the Miami Hurricanes, but he decided to go with the Razorbacks instead after a phenomenal high school career. Collins may lack the size of most running backs, but many believe he has what it takes to develop into an effective player at the college level as he always seems capable of breaking into a big play.
Along with Miami, Collins was being recruited by numerous big-name schools such as the Wisconsin Badgers, Florida Gators and even the Florida State Seminoles. There was a reason why so many of these schools were after Collins and landing a star running back may be what Arkansas needs to bounce back from a disastrous 2012 season.
The potential is certainly there for Collins and it should be interesting to see how quickly he develops at the college level as the Razorbacks would certainly love to use him as much as possible for the 2013 season. Otherwise, they may end up wishing Collins ended up committing to Miami like he originally did a few months ago.
