Maryland Terrapins Expected To Miss Out On Area Top Talents
The 2013 College Football Signing Day is only hours away. As expected, top recruits from the state of Maryland are headed elsewhere. This year, the state has five top recruits: Khaliel Rodgers (OG Eastern Christian Academy), Henry Poggi (DT Gilman School), Dorian O’Daniel (OLB Our Lady of Good Counsel High School), Kenny Bigelow (DT Eastern Christian Academy) and Kendall Fuller (CB Our Lady of Good Counsel High School).
Of the five top area recruits, only Rodgers was not offered a scholarship to play for the Maryland Terrapins. Poggi has verbally committed to the Michigan Wolverines. O’Daniel is expected to sign with the rival Clemson Tigers. The state’s number one and Nation’s number five ranked CB, Fuller is expected to play for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Bigelow, the nation’s third best DT recruit, has already signed to play with the USC Trojans.
In terms of the school’s local recruiting reach, Washington, D.C. must be included. The University is just north of the nation’s capital and many of its high schools groom University of Maryland players. The city features one outstanding player in Devin Butler (CB Gonzaga High School) He is expected to sign with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
While the Terps are expected to miss out on the top talent in the region and nation, they still have 19 solid verbal commitments. The area still holds many players that have the talent to play at the college level. In a year where not much is expected on the field from the team, being competitive is still a priority for head coach Randy Edsall.
