The consensus No. 1 player in the 2013 college football recruiting class, Loganville, Georgia defensive end Robert Nkemdiche has committed to the Ole Miss Rebels.
At 6’5′, 265″, Nkemdiche has a superior skill set at defensive end, which, combined with pure brut strength should allow him to have an instant impact in Oxford. His athleticism could also allow Nkemdiche to slide down inside and play some inside linebacker when necessary or in certain formations.
Right now, Nkemdiche has an NFL body at age 18 with an unlimited upside and potential unrivaled according to scouting reports since Jadaveon Clowney and other high-impact defensive players that were able to arrive on campus on Day One and make a difference as true freshmen.
With 14 offers on the table from the early going, Nkemdiche certainly had no shortage of offers to choose from — with the majority of first-tier Southern programs in the SEC and ACC putting everything out there and hoping to have him as the centerpiece of their 2013 recruiting classes.
As it turns out, Hugh Freeze is the winner in the biggest sweepstakes of this year’s recruiting battle, but there are many more players in the Rebels’ sights — and you can rest assured that Nkemdiche’s announcement could well be the first domino to drop in what could end up being a landslide — the best class Ole Miss has seen in some time.
Dare we say, a class that could be a game-changer.
