The Virginia Cavaliers got their man today for the 2013 College Football National Signing Day as Taquan Mizzell (RB Bayside High School, Virginia Beach) signed his pledge to play football next season for the team. Mizzell is a four-star recruit out of a competitive triple AAA  High School Division in Virginia.  He is a top-75 recruit, and should fit in nicely with his new team.

The Cavaliers are losing Senior Perry Jones, and Mizzell could potentially spell or supplant junior Kevin Parks. The Cavs never really had a great ground game last season by any individual player.  They finished at 2-6 in the ACC’s Coastal division. Mizzell could be the addition the team needs to help them get out of the bottom.

Mizzell brings a short frame (5’10”) with him over to Charlottesville, VA. While he has the speed of a traditional scat back, he ran very well in a North/South system his senior year. Mizzell rushed for 22 touchdowns and 1112 yards last season. He also managed a fantastic 7.67 yards per carry average.

In addition to his 22 rushing touchdowns, Mizzell added six more scoring receptions. He capped off those impressive numbers with a punt and kick return touchdown for a grand total of 30. Twice, Mizzell produced a five-touchdown game.  He also had a few four-touchdown games as well.  And only once did Mizzell offer up a single touchdown game during the regular season.

Mizzell plays hard and should improve a Virginia team in desperate need of a great running back. Look for him to make an immediate impact on the field.
