Incoming Florida State Seminoles Defensive Coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt should have no problem adjusting to his new team.  Pruitt arrives from the defending National Champion, Alabama Crimson Tide.  In Alabama, Pruitt was the defensive backs coach.  While there, Alabama ranked consistently in the top ten in defensive categories.  They also held a top five scoring and total yards position for those three seasons.

Alabama offered up three defensive backs to the NFL following the 2011 season(Mark BarronDre Kirkpatrick and DeQuan Menzie).  To lose that kind of talent and achieve even greater heights the following season is impressive. This year, Alabama finished number one in total defense.

As mentioned, Pruitt will oversee the entire defense at Florida State, not just the defensive backs.  It is safe to say he has those positions nailed down though.  Florida State has nabbed a top 100 recruit at the cornerback position for the last eight seasons.  This year was no exception.  The school signed Jalen Ramsey, a four star recruit out of Tennessee. In addition to Ramsey, the Seminoles also inked four star recruit Marquez White from Alabama. So if it’s defensive backs Pruitt wants, he certainly has his options at the position.

Pruitt is also one heck of a recruiter.  In addition to his top defensive coaching ability, Pruitt brings along with him the knack for landing the recruits to fit his scheme.  Last season, Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban, with the help of Pruitt boasted the number one recruiting class in the nation.

The more one reads about Jeremy Pruitt, the more there is to like. As mentioned yesterday, look for Florida State to not miss a step on the defensive side of the ball.
