Unfortunately, every once in a while there comes a story in sports where parents take things too far by getting too intense with the sport their children play. As for one man in Oklahoma who’s under investigation for abusing his son for one of the most bizzarre reasons in the world–liking the Oklahoma Sooners over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

41-year-old Gannon Mendez is currently under investigation after his nine-year-old son told a classmate he was beaten by a wooden paddle for rooting for Oklahoma instead of Oklahoma State. Mendez is also being investigated for other actions of behavior towards the boy such as making him run until he pukes on a football field and waking him up every 30 minutes to perform push ups.

Details are still coming in about this story, but the stuff discovered so far are nothing short of disturbing if all of these allegations end up being true. What’s even more disturbing is Mendez has been connected to Oklahoma State athletics in the past for providing money and specific benefits to members of the football team.

In fact, these incidents from the past forced players to be banned from having any sort of contact with Mendez in general.

Once again, this is another example of parents taking things too far when it comes to sports and another reminder that some people need to realize this is just a game. Not kid should ever have to go through what this nine-year-old boy went through by Mendez and it should be interesting to see how this case plays out.
