Penn State Playing Host To 5 Star Cornerback Jabrill Peppers Today
The Penn State Nittany Lions received some good news today when they found out they would be playing host to three prospects on unofficial visits. All three prospects hail from Paramus Catholic in Paramus, New Jersey, a school known for pumping out prospects.
All three of the prospects visiting today are unique. You have the undervalued prospect who has yet to receive an offer, the solid prospect with a few good offers, then the superstar with offers from every powerhouse in the country.
Steve Shanley is the undervalued prospect. A 6’2” 185lb pocket passer, Shanley threw for a modest 1,455 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior last year. Shanley has a fantastic arm, and is a very bright kid (evidenced by his 4.0 GPA). Although he hasn’t received any offers yet, he’s been getting looks (Colorado has been following him the closest), and will more than likely have some offers after the camp circuits this summer. Shanley would make an excellent developmental prospect for coach Bill O’Brien, and could be ready if Christian Hackenberg decides to leave early for the Draft someday.
Juwan Bushell-Beatty is an intriguing offensive tackle prospect. He’s got excellent size (6’5” 295lbs) to play either inside or out, with good strength as well. Beatty already has offers from schools such as Florida, Florida State and West Virginia, so the Lions would be wise to jump into the mix at this early stage in the game. You can never have enough quality linemen, and considering the roster limitations due to sanctions, the Lions would be wise to invest in versatile linemen.
Jabrill Peppers is the rockstar. The big enchilada. This 6’1” 210 cornerback is unbelievable. Peppers would’ve made a run as the top corner in last years class, and that was one of the best CB classes in years. He’s got everything; size, strength, speed, awareness, ability play zone or man, and the athleticism to play multiple positions (running back, wide receiver, cornerback, safety). He’s the whole package. Unfortunately for Lions fans, his top five is Alabama (crazy, I know), Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Stanford. O’Brien and his staff have a lot of work to do with Peppers.
I wouldn’t expect any of the players today to commit (only Peppers has an offer), but this is a good introductory visit just to show the prospects the campus, the facilities and begin developing relationships with the coaching staff. Hopefully for Lions fans, this won’t be the last time any of these three guys visits State College, Pennsylvania.
