Ole Miss is throwing their hat into the mix for five-star defensive end/outside linebacker, Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga. Norcross) after offering the 6-6, 230-pound freakishly gifted athlete a scholarship on Wednesday.
Other perennial powers after the explosive Carter include Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and USC, but it’s the Rebels that would love to pair him with last year’s top recruit in the nation and fellow defensive end, Robert Nkemdiche and should be viewed as a legit player for him.
Lining up opposite Nkemdiche on the defensive line or even next to each other in obvious passing situations with Nkemdiche kicking down inside to tackle would have opposing offensive linemen in the SEC having nightmares the week that Ole Miss was on the schedule.
Carter could stand to gain 20-25 pounds before he enrolls in college to stand up better in the run game, and could be an outside linebacker in teams that run a 3-4 like Alabama, but for Ole Miss he could be the perfect pairing for the powerful Nkemdiche who could start his career as an end but finish it as a 3-technique defensive tackle.
247Sports ranks Carter as the No. 3 player in the nation and the top weakside defensive end in the nation while Rivals ranks him as the No. 9 player overall and even though they are entering the chase later than others, you’d be foolish to count them out of the race.
Just six weeks ago, the rebels got into the Laremy Tunsil sweepstakes after he was perceived to be choosing between Alabama or Georgia, but one trip to Oxford later, the No. 5 player in the nation signed with the Rebels.
Once Carter takes a visit to Oxford, Ms the rest may be history and he could be the latest blue-chip prospect to come to play for Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss.
Carter recorded 136 tackles and 18 sacks last year as a junior.
