Even though it didn’t take place at the NFL Combine, Northern Iowa wide receiver Terrell Sinkfield is catching the attention of scouts after running a 4.19 40-yard dash time at Minnesota’s pro day on Monday–which happens to be .05 seconds better than the time recorded by Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson back in 2008.
Of course as we’ve seen over the years, just because a player runs an impressive 40-yard dash doesn’t mean they’re fit for the NFL as Sinkfield still has a lot to prove if he’s going to have any chance in being selected in the 2013 NFL Draft once April rolls around. Over his last two seasons at Northern Iowa, Sinkfield caught just 51 passes for 963 yards and 10 touchdowns–which some of the top receivers in this year’s class have topped in one season alone.
Still, there’s always the chance of at least one team taking a risk on Sinkfield if he continues to impress scouts over the next couple of weeks. There are plenty of teams that may even be willing to take a risk on Sinkfield if they’re looking for a threat in the return game–so it should be interesting to see how these next few weeks play out.
Still, it’s difficult not to recognize Sinkfield’s speed and consider what he would be capable of doing on the football field. The draft is officially less than two months away–so keep an eye on Sinkfield over the next few weeks to see if he can figure out a way to improve his draft stock.
