Just like that, top recruit Dareian Watkins has narrowed his long list of college offers down to five. The final five schools are Illinois, Indiana and Louisville, with his projected front-runners being Michigan State and Northwestern.

Watkins is known as one of the top athletes in the class of 2014 with a list of 20 offers on his recruitment table. The talented athlete could be yet another top Ohio prospect to make the green and white his home.

The 6-foot-2, 192-pound recruit looks to be a solid addition to a team that looks to on track to add a wealth of talent in 2014 — if he does choose Michigan State.

Sure, the Spartans are coming off a disappointing 2012 season, but it was all in growth, with the transition of the team taking longer than expected to mold together. Head coach Mark Dantonio offered 13 new 2014 recruits a scholarship in the month of February, most of which are four-stars.

This could be a sign of things to come as Dantonio has turned the Spartan program from average to good in the past six seasons. The next step is to go from good to great and join the likes of Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Michigan when it comes to recruiting — something that isn’t so far-fetched to believe.

Enough about the steady growth of the Spartan program. Watkins is one of the top recruits in the state of Ohio and considered by many major recruiting sites as a top-10 athlete in the class of 2014. He can play quarterback and wide receiver, earning the title of game-changer with his solid 4.4 speed.

Whichever team lands this talented recruit will have a solid offensive threat for years to come.
