Jordan Hall Ready to Step Into Pivot Position for Ohio State Buckeyes in 2013

Urban Meyer found the ultimate success while head coach of the Florida Gators with a high-octane offense that utilized a running back/wide receiver hybrid in the offense. Meyer called this the “pivot” position and it launched the career of Percy Harvin who has continued it in the NFL. The Ohio State Buckeyes didn’t have any players who had that skill set last season, so Meyer left it out of the offense. With Jordan Hall returning from injury in 2013, Ohio State won’t have to go without the pivot again.

Hall wasn’t expecting to be suiting up again for the Buckeyes in 2013, but injuries let him make just three appearances in 2012 and the senior was able to get a medical redshirt from the NCAA to come back for one more season in Columbus. It’s hard to determine who is happier about Hall’s extra year: the running back or his coach.

After spring practice in 2012, Hall was penciled in as the starting running back but injuries forced him out of the lineup. Now, Carlos Hyde has the No. 1 running back job on lock down for 2013, but Meyer is a master of finding roles of his best athletes and will find plenty of opportunities for the speedy, playmaking senior next fall.

There will be competition for the pivot position this August when incoming freshmen Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson hit campus for fall camp. Hall will have the inside track, however, especially if he can put together a strong spring and impress Meyer. He will undoubtedly have the experience advantage and will have no shortage of motivation to cap his collegiate career the right way.

Either way, Urban Meyer will finally have the missing piece to his offense and will get the Buckeyes running at full speed in 2013.
