Oklahoma Sooners’ Lane Johnson To Work Out For Andy Reid On Friday

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

It is being reported by NFL.com that the Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid will be leading a group down to the Oklahoma Sooners campus in Norman to work out and interview Lane Johnson. They will also be going down to Texas in the same trip to take a closer look at Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel.

Johnson is projected to be not only a first-round draft pick, but could be a top-10 pick. The Chiefs are in need of offensive lineman, and both Joeckel and Johnson are the top candidates coming out in the 2013 NFL Draft. Many thought the Chiefs may go with a quarterback with their No. 1 draft pick, but the interest in both offensive linemen may have them shifting gears.

Johnson, as most everyone knows, is high on a lot of team’s draft boards. The probability that the Chiefs take him over Joeckel isn’t high, so it really depends on how the scheduled visits go for both on Friday. Johnson was beyond impressive at both the NFL Combine and the Senior Bowl, which solidified what Sooner fans have been saying for a couple of seasons — Lane is a beast.

During the combine, Johnson recorded top-performer results in 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill, broad jump, vertical jump and the 40-yard dash.

Regardless with what happens during the scheduled meeting with some of the Chiefs coaching staff, expect to hear his name mentioned with several other teams over the next couple of weeks.

As a Dallas Cowboys fan, I’d be more than happy to see him in the silver and blue, but I know that won’t happen. There is no way he will last on the board that long, but a girl can still dream, right?
