Ole Miss is the latest to throw their hat in the chase for five-star wide receiver Drake Harris (Grand Rapids, Mi. Grand Rapids Christian) and offered the former Michigan State verbal commit on Tuesday, two weeks after Harris’ decommitting from the Spartans.

The 6-4, 180-pound Harris is the No. 2-ranked receiver in the 247Sports.com composite rankings and it’s believed that Michigan is the favorite to land Harris with Ohio State, Georgia and Florida also in a favorable position to potentially land Harris.

However, that was before Ole Miss Coach Hugh Freeze got into the mix and worked his recruiting magic. Freeze landed last year’s No. 2 receiver, Laquon Treadwell, and would love nothing more than to pair him opposite him in 2014. The possibility exists that the Rebels top receiver Donte Moncrief could declare for the NFL draft after this season and open up a spot on the depth chart for Harris to start immediately as a freshman and be a big sales pitch to get him to Oxford.

Currently, the Rebels will have to play catch-up with the aforementioned four teams, but that’s not uncommon for Freeze and his staff of ace recruiters. This past winter they were able to steal the nation’s top offensive tackle, Laremy Tunsil, away from Georgia and Alabama after getting in the chase late. The Rebels are hoping that lightning strikes twice and being late to the party won’t hurt their pursuit of the explosive receiver.

Harris put up ridiculous numbers last season as a junior when he had 91 receptions for 2,015 yards and 25 touchdowns.
