Urban Meyer Under Pressure For Ohio State Buckeyes To Be Perfect

The Ohio State Buckeyes went through the 2012 college football season with a perfect 12-0 record but didn’t get to play in a bowl game because of sanctions levied against the program. This season sees a team that doesn’t have to deal with that distraction and can play for a national championship. I think there is a lot of pressure on Urban Meyer this year to have the team repeat their efforts from a season ago.

Ohio State has a schedule that doesn’t have many roadblocks honestly, and all of their hard games up until the season finale against the Michigan Wolverines are at home. Meyer did a good job getting Braxton Miller on track last year and now needs Miller to take the next step. Miller threw for 2,039 yards last year with 15 touchdown passes, but it is his legs that do most of the talking with 1,271 rushing yards in 2012. Meyer must be pleased that he has a dual-threat quarterback like Miller on the team again for his junior year.

There are no sanctions this season so there is going to be even more pressure on this year’s Ohio State team to make the final BCS Championship game. Meyer knows all about winning that title, and I’m sure he has made that very clear to his team during spring practice. I know I wouldn’t want to have the team that faces the Buckeyes with a national title on the line. Meyer will have his team ready to go when the 2013 regular season begins. The pressure will just heighten on Meyer, Miller and Ohio State every week after that.
