A Closer Look at the Kansas State Wildcats’ 2013 Football Schedule

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas State Wildcats’ 2013 schedule is out and it seems to be a solid schedule throughout.

The non-conference schedule is nothing to write home about. Featuring games against the North Dakota State Bison, the UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns and the UMass Minutemen, I’m disappointed that this team didn’t challenge itself more out-of-conference.

I would have liked to see at least one challenging game on the non-conference schedule. In a conference like the Big 12, all a team really needs to boost its schedule over the top is one difficult non-conference game. The conference schedule is respectable enough.

The teams’ bye weeks seem to be spaced fairly evenly, with one on week five following a road game against the Texas Longhorns, the second on week eight following an away game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and a home game against the Baylor Bears.

The final bye week is scheduled on week 15. I’ve never been a fan of taking the last week off, but we’ll see what happens.

I think my biggest concern on this schedule is those two games I just mentioned, where the Wildcats will travel to face Texas, return home for a bye week and then head back on the road to face Oklahoma State.

Thank goodness for that bye week. Without it, Kansas State would certainly have its work cut out for it, to travel to two of the tougher conference teams’ home field in consecutive weeks.

Even with that bye week it won’t be an easy task.

So overall I think I’m going to give the Wildcats’ schedule a solid B in strength. While it’s no walk in the park, it also isn’t anything too difficult either.

When you compare this schedule to the Kansas Jayhawks’ schedule or the TCU Horned Frogs’ schedule, you can see the difference in strength. Here is a look at the Kansas schedule, and here is a look at the TCU schedule.
