Schedule Favors Great Season for Baylor Bears
I have always been a person who looks at a team’s schedule to determine how good they will be. The Baylor Bears are a team with their schedule that should be contending for a Big 12 championship this season. Baylor will play seven home games out of their 12-game schedule with an eighth game at a neutral location. That is a major advantage for a team that went 8-5 last season.
Baylor has their first four games at home and only has to hit the road for consecutive games once. The Bears obviously won’t have the graduated Nick Florence and his 4,309 passing yards from last season, but this is where the schedule plays into Baylor’s favor. The first three games shouldn’t bring a ton of resistance before the Bears have to face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Oct. 5. It would appear to me that there is only one hard game on the road as well.
It is going to be up to Bryce Petty to take the reins and run with them. Petty was 7-for-10 last season for 97 yards and a touchdown. He didn’t play in the team’s last four regular season games in 2012 but did get into five other games in some capacity. The home games will allow Petty to relax and work into his new job without the pressure of hitting the road right away to do it. I really believe that Baylor will win nine or ten games this coming season behind him, and the team’s schedule is a big part in leading me towards this conclusion.
