Devonte Fields Will Be Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year … Again
The TCU Horned Frogs will be powered defensively by one of the most powerful in the NCAA.
DE Devonte Fields is a 6’4, 240-pound animal like player for Arlington Texas. Fields has an NFL body gifted with NFL strength and ability. Last year alone, Fields recorded 10 sacks, 18.5 tackles for loss, 34 solo tackles and 19 assists for a total of 53. Devonte won the Big 12 Player of the Year honors last year and will, in my opinion, do the same this year.
It was just released about a week ago that Devonte will be suspended for two games of the 2013 season including a huge game against LSU. Even with Fields missing these two games, I still expect him to take the Big 12 and the NCAA by storm. As far as his ranking in the NCAA, the only defensive end I would rank in front of Fields is Jadeveon Clowney. Clowney is #1 on Mel Kiper Jr.’s early 2014 draft big board and is already the Heisman threat for many all across the NCAA football nation. Outside of Clowney, Devonte Fields is the top player in the Big 12 and one of the best in all of the NCAA.
Fields, despite missing these two games, will put up large enough numbers to blow past any other defensive player in the Big 12 and possibly even in all of the NCAA. Devonte Fields is a force to be reckoned with in the NCAA in this upcoming 2013 season. The combination of his NFL size, strength and ability will put him atop of all the NCAA defensive categories. If Fields can stay out of trouble, he could be the best defensive player in the NCAA.
