College Football Recruiting: Arizona State Sun Devils Close in on Quarterback Recruit
Todd Graham is building a strong program with the Arizona State Sun Devils, and he is hitting the recruiting trail hard to make sure it continues to grow in a positive direction. He could be close to securing one of the top quarterbacks on the west coast for his 2014 class as Manny Wilkins appears ready to announce his commitment to the Sun Devils. Can Graham seal the deal?
Wilkins is a lean, athletic, dual-threat quarterback that has gone largely under the radar this spring during the early recruiting period. He patiently waited for some of the bigger programs to come calling and they have, starting with Arizona State and the Arizona Wildcats. The Sun Devils enjoy the edge, however, thanks to their top-rated broadcasting and communications programs, which Wilkins hopes to enroll in. He’s impressed with the product ASU is putting out on the football field, too.
The four-star quarterback admits that he is very high on Arizona State and doesn’t want the offer to sit for too long. He has meetings scheduled this week with coaches from the Texas A&M Aggies, UCLA Bruins, Wisconsin Badgers and Oregon State Beavers who are coming around to the talented signal caller’s ability as some of the higher-profile quarterback recruits trim their list of prospective schools. Wilkins will keep an open mind when meeting with these schools before likely making his decision next week.
For now, Arizona State sits firmly at No. 1 on his potential destination list, but the sudden interest from multiple major programs could pull Wilkins in another direction. Will the Sun Devils have their QB prospect plucked from their grasp at the final moment?
