West Stanly (N.C.) defensive end B.J. Hill has really made it no secret that he may want to pursue his college football career somewhere within the ACC confines. The Clemson Tigers, Virginia Cavaliers, and Virginia Tech Hokies are just three of the schools that have been somewhat involved in the defensive star’s recruitment.
However as the process continues to heat up, it seems as if the final options will narrow down to one of the schools located in the state of North Carolina. And, that also includes one sleeper school outside of the ACC.
The North Carolina Tar Heels, North Carolina State Wolfpack, and the East Carolina Pirates are said to be schools of major interest to the high school senior. While the Tar Heels and Wolfpack are both up-and-coming programs that can begin to attract the eyes of young prospects as they themselves are growing, the Pirates shouldn’t be counted out of the race.
While North Carolina and N.C. State have been a part of Hill’s recruitment, East Carolina has tried to take control of it, and are doing a somewhat impressive job. Back in January, the 6-3, 240-pounder attended their Junior Day and left with an official offer on the table. Hill was said to be very impressed with the campus and facilities, and has been in constant contact with his recruiting coach, Brandon Jones.
If there is anything that may be making the recruiting staffs of some of the bigger programs a little weary, it’s probably the fact that Hill missed the majority of the 2012 season with an injury. He only participated in three games.
This process will be interesting to see play out over the summer, and into fall. Hill will take trips to multiple camps and, if he can show that the injury bug is gone, should pick up more official offers–mainly from North Carolina and N.C. State.
The prospects of Hill staying in his home-state look promising. But, for which school? Will he reward the loyalty that East Carolina has showed him since day one? Or, can N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren or North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora lure him to the bright lights of the ACC?
