College Football Recruiting: Jalyn Holmes Picking Ohio State Instead of Florida State?

Urban Meyer

Despite the fact that he listed three schools as potential landing spots, it was believed that four star defensive end Jalyn Holmes had already made up his mind.  Rumors all over the internet suggested the Norfolk, Virginia native had his mind set on Florida State and was in fact recruiting for the Noles for the last few weeks.

That apparently all changed when he visited Urban Meyer and Ohio State recently.  Instead of being a “lock” to the Noles, it now appears Holmes had a dramatic change of heart and is on the verge of verbally committing to the Buckeyes.  In fact, it was leaked by someone today that he in fact did commit to Ohio State yesterday.  Holmes addressed the rumors via Twitter:

Even though nothing is official, it appears Meyer has once again stolen a player who grew up a self-proclaimed Florida State fan.  Famously, Meyer nabbed another Virginia native who grew up cheering for the Seminoles, wide receiver Percy Harvin.  We all know how that turned out for Meyer and the Florida Gators. There is a long way to go between now and National Signing Day, but Holmes seems enamored with Columbus.  While on his trip, he also tweeted this message about his visit:

Wherever he ends up, Holmes will be a dominant edge rusher at the collegiate level.  Rivals has him ranked as the third best defensive end in the country, and he’ll improve if he can add weight to his wiry 6-foot-5 frame.  He’s an explosive player who some think could actually play tight end in college.  However, most schools are recruiting him as a defensive end and are in love with the potential they see in his raw talent.

Florida State fans probably thought they’d fought their last recruiting battle with Meyer after he left the rival Gators.  Looks like he’s continuing to torment them from up north.
