College Football Recruiting: North Carolina State Get Two More Commitments

Dave Doeren isn’t wasting any time filling up the North Carolina State class of 2014. In his first full year recruiting as the Wolfpack head coach, Doeren has had early success getting verbal commitments, and that trend continued today. is reporting that NC State has received commitments from two more players this morning.

Actually, coach Doeren reported it himself on Twitter as well:

The first player to commit today was punter A.J. Cole from College Park, Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 215 pounder also plays tight end for Woodward Academy, but will only be kicking at the collegiate level. He will punt and perhaps do kickoffs as well. After impressing at NC State’s kicking camp this week, Cole got the offer and pulled the trigger this morning. He became the 13th commit for the class of 2014.

Hours later, NC State fans learned they received another commitment, this time from Maurice Trowell, a wide receiver out of Durham, North Carolina.

Trowell is an underrated two-star prospect that has the physical tools to develop into a weapon for Doeren and the Wolfpack. He’s a little light at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, but has the speed and acceleration that will fit well into the spread attack. As a junior, Trowell racked up 940 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 46 catches.

Trowell seemed to have a strong interest in East Carolina, the first school to offer him, but grew to love NC State after spending considerable time on campus.

It’s already been a productive day on the recruiting front, but perhaps coach Doeren was foreshadowing that there’s more to come with his tweet. Could a third commit be on the way?  We’ll have to wait and see.
