Louisville Cardinals Land Coveted Running Back Daniel Gresham Over Alabama, Miami

Seemingly no matter what nowadays, the Louisville Cardinals athletic squads can do no wrong. A national title win in Men’s Basketball, a national title game appearance in Women’s Hoops, a solid run in the College World Series and a Sugar Bowl victory this past January are the main highlights of this recent tear through college athletics, on the fields and the courts.

And, as far as the sport of football goes, they’re doing all they need to in the offseason to try and keep that ball of success rolling.

On Monday, head coach Charlie Strong received a commitment from the #1 rated (according to 247Sports) fullback in the country, Daniel Gresham. The former Texas Longhorns commit had a host of schools on his list, which included the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes and Ole Miss Rebels. Recently, it was rumored that it was down to ‘Bama and Miami, but in the end, the Cardinals prevailed.

Gresham, out of Forth Worth, TX, is a bruising 5-11, 230-pound fullback that actually grew up in Louisville, before moving to Texas a few years ago. Speaking to 247, Gresham made it known that he was raised a Cardinals fan, and this really is a dream come true for him.

There’s also a good chance that Strong will consider this a dream come true in the near future as well.

While Gresham is listed as a fullback, he made it known that he will be converted into an every-down featured back when he enrolls at Louisville.

If this transition goes smoothly, Gresham will be a perfect fit as the featured back in Strong’s offense. The fullback experience all but guarantees that he will have no issue picking up the blocking schemes, and he is a nightmare to bring down. He has great hands for a fullback, making him a viable option for catching the ball out of the backfield.

This is the 15th commitment for Louisville in the 2014 class, which also happens to be the Cardinals’ first year as a member of the ACC.
