Auburn Tigers Targeting Elite 11 Quarterback Sean White
Auburn is one of five SEC teams without a quarterback commitment for the class of 2014, but that could be coming to an end after Sean White (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. University School of Nova South) visits the Plains in the second week of July.
White is a three-star recruit who currently is working out at the Elite 11 camp in Oregon, where he has impressed Elite 11 coach Trent Dilfer with his accuracy.
Dilfer tells Jeremy Crabtree of ESPN, “His accurate isn’t just accurate. It’s exact. It’s an NFL type of ball. I’m stealing this from Steve Young, but he has an artistic ball. He paints a picture with his ball. He just doesn’t throw a hinge. He throws the receiver open with the hinge. He just doesn’t throw a skinny post. He sends a message with his skinny post.”
White stands 6-foot-3 and tips the scales at 204 pounds. He holds 14 offers, but the Tigers are not in that group of 14. White is hoping the Tigers will extend an offer in person when he visits between July 10 and July 12.
Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has been in regular contact with the quarterback since earning his invite to the Elite 11 camp and has come away impressed with his body of work. White will throw for the coaches on his visit and if all goes well, he could earn that elusive scholarship offer.
White tells Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports that he loves Lashlee and is eager to see what the school has to offer and how he would fit with the program. “I like the atmosphere there and playing in the SEC — it’s a school with great tradition and stuff,” White said. “If Auburn offered it would mean a lot. I really like them.”
Auburn is still very much in the running for dual-threat quarterback Brandon Harris (Bossier City, La. Parkway) who will commit on July 18, and Auburn has been recruiting Florida commit Will Grier (Davidson, N.C. Davidson Day) hard of late. Also of note is class of 2015 quarterback Tyler Queen (Kennesaw, Ga. North Cobb), who could be an early commitment when he visits around July 8 or July 9.
The Tigers could be getting one of the more underrated quarterback recruits in the nation in White should they lose out for Harris, but wouldn’t seem to deter Queen from considering Auburn. No matter how you slice it, Auburn looks to be in good shape at the quarterback position in 2014 and beyond, and Lashlee is a big reason for that.
