LB Jason Cabinda Commitment Is Great for Syracuse Orange
Monday night, the Syracuse Orange learned that they picked up their seventh commitment for the class of 2014. Fleminton, New Jersey linebacker Jason Cabinda ended his recruitment and picked Syracuse over offers from several colleges, including fellow ACC schools Boston College and Maryland.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Cabinda is the fourth linebacker to commit to Syracuse already. Many thought Boston College had a leg up in the recruitment of Cabinda, but when the time came for him to pull the trigger, the Orange came out on top.
Cabinda was being recruited by many schools as an athlete, capable of playing linebacker or running back at the next level. He has the ideal size to play either position and despite having a thick build, does possess excellent speed. He has played with his hand on the ground at defensive end at the high school level, but all indications are he will be an outside linebacker for Syracuse when he arrives on campus.
On defense, he has shown explosiveness, but will need to improve his lateral movement at the next level. With three linebacker commitments from 2013 and four more this year, it is highly likely that Cabinda will redshirt his first year with the Orange. That time will give him time to transition to the college game, something he will need as he learns a new position.
Monday was a historic day for the Syracuse Orange as they officially made the change and joined the ACC. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Pittsburgh Panthers also became members on Monday, and the Louisville Cardinals will join in 2014.
