Four-Star DB Trey Marshall Chooses Florida State

Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles got the announcement they were looking for on Wednesday night.

Four-star, speedy defensive back Trey Marshall made his commitment to the ‘Noles official, live on ESPNU during the conclusion of ‘The Opening’ in Beaverton, Ore.

In a decision that came down to either Florida State or Ole Miss, the Florida native decided that he will attend the school in Tallahassee, which is only about an hour away from his current residence.

The Seminoles are getting a dynamic all-around player in Marshall. Just the other day, Marshall displayed his world-class speed by clocking in at an astonishing 4.34 in the 40-yard dash. Aside from his blazing speed helping him in coverage down the field, the safety is an exceptional run-stopper. He’s certainly not afraid to come up and make the big stick, and he does a fantastic job of shedding blockers to get to the man with the rock in hand.

Marshall has taken several visits to Tallahassee throughout his recruitment, including a trip back in April during the weekend of the spring game. As the process moved along, he developed a strong relationship with defensive coach Jeremy Pruitt as well as fellow FSU commit, LB Kain Daub.

You can definitely see Marshall playing multiple roles in the FSU defense in the future. Aside from possibly taking advantage of his versatility and moving him around to some different slots in certain schemes, you can also easily see the young man utilizing that speed to return a few kicks to the house.

Marshall is now the 16th commit for the 2014 Florida State class.
