Cameron Sims (Monroe La. Ouachita Parish) is one of the more physically imposing wide receiver recruits in the nation at nearly 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, and Ole Miss could be the dark horse team to beat in his recruitment.

Ranked as a high four-star prospect by the 247sports composite rankings, Sims has no shortage of suitors as you would imagine with Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia among the SEC schools after him.

The Rebels are in a position to be the team to beat behind Alabama, who is believed to be the front-runner for him at this point of his recruitment, after two visits to Oxford in June. Sims competed in two camps at Ole Miss last month as well as the 2013 Southern Elite Combine in Oxford last week and simply dominated.

With his impressive combination of height, 4.5 speed, competitiveness and exceptional ball skills Sims looked like a man amongst boys. His catching radius is as wide as a garage door. He can catch the ball down by his cleats and he can get up and high-point the ball as well as any high school receiver in this class.

What separates Sims from the other bigger receivers in this class is his attention to detail in running his routes. Often larger receivers can become lazy in their routes and get by on their sheer size advantage to bully their way to the ball. Sims has shown the route-running savvy of a 5-foot-9, 175-pound slot receiver during the camp circuit.

In a loaded wide receiver class, especially in Sims’ home state of Louisiana, he could be the one to get away from the Tigers. Alabama remains in the driver’s seat and he was at their camp Sunday, but if they secure a commitment from Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla. Homestead) that could force him to look closer to the Rebels who are gaining ground.

Can you imagine a wide receiver duo of Laquon Treadwell and Sims in Oxford? That prospect is looking more and more like a distinct reality. Sims has mentioned in the past he can see himself playing at Ole Miss where he loves the town and where it “kinda feels like home.”

Sims had 39 receptions for 948 yards and eight touchdowns last year as a junior.
