There’s few awards in college football where you can say that the focus is entirely on one player. In the case of the Biletnikoff Award, this is one of the exceptions. Following a dominant performance in 2012, many expect the USC Trojans‘ Marqise Lee to be named the best all-around wide receiver in the nation when all is said and done in 2013.
Still on Tuesday, 74 other names were released, along with Lee, as part of this preseason’s Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Of the 75 total names, the Atlantic Coast Conference has landed 10 names on the roster, led by two from the perennial conference favorite going into the season, the Clemson Tigers.
Both juniors Sammy Watkins and Charone Peake showed up as they get ready to try and meet some lofty expectations this year along side their QB, Tajh Boyd. Watkins is looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2012 that saw a huge drop in production from that dynamic freshman season we were all treated to in 2011. Peake was off to a fast start last season while Watkins was serving a suspension for the first two games as he totaled 11 receptions. However, that average slowly dipped as Peake only hauled in 14 passes when Watkins returned to the starting lineup.
While both Tigers’ wideouts are poised to have productive seasons, the rest of the members on the list from the ACC all have the tools to give anyone in the country a run for their money.
Pitt‘s Devin Street (Jr.), Florida State‘s Rashad Greene (Jr.), Miami‘s Philip Dorsett (Jr.), Maryland‘s Stefon Diggs (So.), North Carolina‘s Quinshad Davis (So.), Duke‘s Jamison Crowder (Jr.), Wake Forest‘s Michael Campanaro (Sr.) and Boston College‘s Alex Amidon (Sr.) round out the ACC wide receivers being looked at as possibly among the top in the nation.
