Over the last couple of weeks, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has been under the microscope for all the wrong reasons as the Heisman Trophy winner has received criticism left and right for his off the field habits–with one of the latest issues being how he showed up late for the Manning Passing Academy last weekend. At first, reports indicated how the main reason Manziel left camp early was due to the fact that he was hungover and while we may never know the real answer behind this–the quarterback deserves all of the credit in the world for the way he handled the questions regarding the matter during SEC Media Days on Wednesday.
When asked about whether or not he was hungover while attending the camp this past weekend, Manziel played the safe route by simply claiming that he wasn’t going into any of the details about what happened. Plus, even if Manziel was drinking while he was at camp, do you really think he’s going to admit something like this live on the air in front of all the media members in attendance?
Admitting to something like this would just make Manziel’s situation even more difficult to deal with on a daily basis and while most players his age would struggle handling all of this pressure with the media–the quarterback seems to be handling all these questions just fine. Manziel realizes he’s quickly becoming the next Tim Tebow when it comes to how popular he is with the media and he knows how important it is for him to adjust to all of this attention now–or he’s going to be in for a long football career.
