Florida State Seminoles Lead 2013 Preseason All-ACC Team

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

While the Clemson Tigers were resoundingly picked as the favorites to win the ACC in 2013, the Florida State Seminoles dominated the media’s preseason All-ACC team recently released. In total, the Seminoles had six players named to the preseason list, doubling the Tigers total of three.

Everyone knows the dynamic duo that Clemson has returning in quarterback Tajh Boyd and wide receiver Sammy Watkins, but outside of those two, the only other Tiger player named to the list was kicker Chandler Catanzaro. All indications are that Clemson’s offense will once again score at will, but serious questions remain in regards to their defense.

On the other hand, Florida State had three defensive players named preseason All-ACC. This, after a year in which they lost a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball in the NFL Draft. Defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, linebacker Christian Jones and corner Lamarcus Joyner all were selected by the media.

Interestingly, North Carolina led the Coastal Division with four players making the list. Their best player, quarterback Bryn Renner, didn’t make the list thanks to Boyd, but tackle James Hurst and tight end Eric Ebron did. On the defensive side, end Kareem Martin and safety Tre Boston made it for the Tar Heels as well.

Miami‘s Duke Johnson was the leading vote getter in what could be considered one of the weaker crop of running backs in the ACC in recent memory. James Wilder Jr. of Florida State was the other running back tabbed by the media.

Of course, these preseason selections mean virtually nothing once the season starts, but it does give fans a look at which players on their team have high expectations heading into the season.
