The upcoming 2013 season looks to be a promising one for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. Quarterback Bryn Renner is going into his senior season and will have two star targets to throw to in Quinshad Davis and Eric Ebron. Although star running back Giovani Bernard is now a member of the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL, the Tar Heels are still optimistic of the season forthcoming.
Last season, Renner threw for 3,356 passing yards, 28 TD, and 7 INT. Those are some pretty good stats, and you can expect them to improve this season, even with the departure of Gio Bernard. The Tar Heels won’t have as much of a running game, which means more throwing for Renner. The first game of the season, UNC will be going against the South Carolina Gamecocks and fierce defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney. In case you didn’t know, Clowney is a beast. We all remember his deadly hit on former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson.
It will be a tough matchup for Renner and the Heels, but luckily he has good players around him. Even with the loss of Jonathan Cooper on the offensive line, as he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, UNC still has a dominant force on the O-Line in James Hurst. In addition to Hurst, as mentioned before, UNC has a stud wide receiver in Quinshad Davis. The amazing thing aboud Davis is that he is only going into his sophomore season. Last season, Davis had 776 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Tight end Eric Ebron had a stellar year last year with four touchdowns and 625 receiving yards, he will be going into his junior season.
As you can see, Bryn Renner will have two great options to throw to, and James Hurst will be replacing Jonathan Cooper’s presence. The team will be going into their second season under Head Coach Larry Fedora. Expect them to gel and to become even more comfortable running the offense. You can also expect Bryn Renner to be a candidate for ACC Player of the Year, and a dark horse for the Heisman.
